Case Study Summary

The CW Television Network is a company which produces different television programmes on their own network.

a) Ownership
The CW Television Network is a Subsidiary, owned by CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. This makes Warner Bros and CBS Corporation the parent company of other smaller companies. They could also be known as a conglomerate, meaning that they are made up from different and unrelated businesses.

b) Operating Model
The CW Television Network makes their money from advertisers paying to put their ads on the TV shows. The reason why these advertisers pay to put their ads of these specific TV shows is because they are popular and know that a lot of people watch the shows. This makes their shows exclusive, meaning that they are making money from selling those shows. Also, another way they make their money is from selling some of their shows to other companies. For example, Arrow and The Flash are able to be watched on Amazon Prime Video. Therefore, The CW has sold some of their shows to Amazon.

c) Products
The CW Television Network makes many different television shows in which The CW Television Network creates themselves. Another type of product for The CW Television Network is the fact that they make Box Sets and DVD's which they sell to companies to sell. Therefore, making profit from selling those products along side the main showing of a show on their channel. The CW makes a variety of genres for their TV shows. Teen Drama - Gossip Girl. Action Fiction - Legends of Tomorrow. Dark Fantasy - Supernatural. Crime Fiction - Arrow. Adventure Fiction - Supergirl.

d) Market Position
The CW Television Network is a market leader in the USA for television shows. However, it does have a presence globally but it not at large as other main stream companies world wide. A way of showing that they are not mainly based in the USA is the fact that they don't film only in America. Some of their more popular shows are filmed in Vancouver, Canada. The evidence below shows that The CW was within the top 10 most viewed television networks throughout 2017.

e) Competitors
The CW Television Network's main competitors are ABC Inc, Fox Broadcasting Company and CBS Corporation. These are the three mainstream / leading television companies in the USA. They make very big shows which are shown worldwide however, some of The CW's shows are more popular than their competitors. Proving that they are a competition to their competitors. The evidence below shows that The Flash on The CW was the top 7th most popular TV show of 2017. The Flash compared to Daredevil on Netflix. Daredevil has a higher overall rating on IMDB when compared to The Flash. However, The Flash has overall more episodes and seasons, meaning that due to the popular demand of the show, it has been able to continue and make more seasons than Daredevil. On the other hand, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had more episodes than both Daredevil and The Flash, and it has more seasons than both of the shows. However this doesn't suggest it is better because it has an overall lower rating from the audience.
